Godel School Complex
Godel, Senegal

The school expansion project in Godel, Senegal, stands as a statement of sustainable and climate-adapted architecture, made possible through the use of the Nubian Vault construction technique. This ancient method, renowned for its low environmental impact, involves the use of local materials such as earth bricks, which require no timber or concrete, drastically reducing the carbon footprint of construction.

Supported by Fondation Jeankerber under the patronage of the Fondation of Luxembourg, the project delivered two classrooms, literacy spaces, and a teacher’s block. More than just buildings, it served as a training site where 21 local villagers, Senegalese masons, technicians, and Burkinabé workers were trained in low-carbon construction, fostering local skills and expertise for future sustainable projects.

This initiative aligns with the mission of Association la Voûte Nubienne, promoting low-carbon, climate-adapted infrastructure across West Africa by building with local materials and empowering communities.
