In collaboration with Let’s Build My School, Chiwarà Project is undertaking the construction of the Mouri Ndiaye School Complex in Djilakh, Senegal, using the Nubian Vault technique. This project aims to provide a sustainable, climate-resilient learning environment for the community while reducing the environmental impact through the use of local materials like earth bricks.
The project is being executed in phases, beginning with the completion of the professor’s room. Future phases will expand the complex to include a block of toilets with inclusive accessibility, one classroom, and a block of three additional classrooms with a library. The phased approach ensures that the school can grow with the community’s needs while maintaining sustainable building practices.
Djilakh, located in the Thiès region, faces significant educational challenges, with overcrowded classrooms and deteriorating infrastructure. The new school complex will provide a safer, more comfortable environment for students, contributing to the long-term educational development of the village.
Through this project, we continue to support the mission of building low-carbon, climate-appropriate infrastructure, empowering local communities by combining sustainable construction methods with hands-on training for local masons and technicians.
