In partnership with Geres, Chiwarà Project is proud to contribute to the development of Electrified Activity Zones (ZAE) across Mali, using the Nubian Vault technique. This project aims to support rural economic resilience by providing businesses with sustainable infrastructure that is both energy-efficient and climate-resilient.
The ZAE initiative seeks to electrify key activity zones in rural areas, fostering local economic development by enabling productive enterprises to access reliable, renewable energy. Chiwarà Project is involved in the construction of five ZAE sites in Galle, Tiele, Namala, Nangola, and Sandama, covering a total of 2,000 sqm. Each site is designed with the Nubian Vault method, which uses locally sourced earth bricks, significantly reducing the environmental impact and energy consumption compared to conventional building methods.
The Nubian Vault technique ensures that the buildings are naturally cool, even in the extreme heat of the Sahel, reducing the need for artificial cooling and minimizing energy use. This sustainable approach aligns perfectly with the ZAE initiative’s goals of creating productive spaces while maintaining a low carbon footprint.
By combining sustainable construction techniques with electrification, the ZAE project enables local businesses to thrive in challenging climates, contributing to the long-term resilience of rural communities. This initiative is a key part of the broader efforts to support energy access and economic empowerment in West Africa.
